Through Queen Esther’s courage and her faith in God, Purim commemorates the narrow escape of the entire Jewish people from the threat of annihilation, and the courage of Queen Esther who bravely stood up for her people. The word “purim” means “lots”, due to the method that wicked Haman used to decide the date that they would wipe out the Jewish people in the provinces of Persia. Purim celebrates what looked like seriously bad luck turning right around under the sovereign rule of God.
These are, “the days on which the Jews got relief from their enemies, and as the month that had been turned for them from sorrow into gladness and from mourning into a holiday; that they should make them days of feasting and gladness, days for sending gifts of food to one another and gifts to the poor.” (Esther 9:22).
In Esther 4:10-17. In her prayer, Esther asks God to: Remember her in her time of affliction, Give her courage, Give her eloquent speech before the king, and Turn the king’s heart against her enemies.
Esther advised Mordecai and the Jewish people to join her and her attendants in three days of fasting and prayer in preparation for her visit to the king to plead for the lives of the Jewish people.

Hebrews 11:23 “By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw that the child was beautiful, and they were not afraid of the king’s edict.”
Pharaoh’s Daughter – courageously adopted Moses knowing the danger of disobeying her father – Exodus 2:5-10
Exodus 2:6 “When she opened it, she saw the child, and behold, the baby was crying. She took pity on him and said, “This is one of the Hebrews’ children.”
Miriam – prophetess, Moses and Aaron’s sister, protects her baby brother Moses by watching him until he is adopted, bravely speaks to Pharaoh’s daughter so her mom can nurse Moses, leads women rejoicing in song and dance in response to God’s salvation from the Egyptian army when they were drowned by God in the Red Sea, given another chance to serve God after failing in opposing Moses and punished with leprosy – Exodus 2:1-10, 15:20-21, Numbers 12:1-15
Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need” (Hebrews 4:16 NIV).
